Back In Time

With a break in the weather, we continued our journey across middle America passing thru the “Land of Lincoln” and crossing over the Mighty Mississippi. We imagined what it would be like to paddle our Minnesota II canoe on it someday…Yikes!

Our westerly trek brought us to Amana, Iowa, where we planned to relax and enjoy the holiday. With the temps still in the 90’s, Bentley opted to catch up on some ZZZZZZ’s in the IBEX while we made our way north to Cedar Rapids. Years ago, Dawn’s Dad played minor league baseball as a pitcher in this area. It was here her Mom and Dad were married and the rest is history. We had great fun tracing back to where it all began.

Adjacent to the ball park, was the All-Veteran’s Memorial where Brad (Sgt Krog) took the opportunity to pay his respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Making our way back south, we toured the Amana Colonies, seven distinct villages that were initially settled by German descendants seeking a self-sufficient lifestyle in the mid 1850’s. Today the Amana Colonies are listed as a National Historic Landmark.

An outdoor concert, antiques auction and fireworks brought our stay here at the Amana RV Park & Event Center to a close.

  1. The Mississippi looks awesome. I’m thinking Bentley has the right idea with catching some z’s. A solemn feeling at the Veteran’s Memorial. Cool fireworks pic!
